VO₂ Max (Bike)
The VO₂ max test is the definitive measurement of cardiorespiratory fitness and aerobic power. It identifies the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilise during intense exercise, acting as a key indicator for high-intensity performance and long-term health outcomes.
What to Expect During Your Assessment
During this session, you will complete multiple stages on your own bike at incrementally increasing power. You will need to bring your own bike to the assessment. Your bike will be set up on a Wahoo KICKR smart trainer for the test. Throughout the test, your breathing is measured via metabolic gas analysis to track oxygen consumption.
The protocol progresses through easy, moderate and hard intensities as we increase power until you reach your maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂ max). This process allows for the understanding of your submaximal and maximal aerobic capabilities.
What This Assessment Gives You
This assessment provides a complete blueprint of your current fitness and your future potential. Your results include:
Maximal Oxygen Uptake (VO₂ max): Discover your cardiorespiratory capacity.
Power at VO₂ (pVO₂ max): The functional performance aspect that relates your VO₂ max to performance.
Energy efficiency: Measure how efficiently you use oxygen to produce power.
Fuel Utilisation (Fat & Carbohydrate Oxidation): Understand your energy expenditure to optimise your race-day nutrition and metabolic efficiency.
Sub-maximal Oxygen Responses: Insights into your aerobic base and endurance durability.
Personalised Reporting and Scientific Strategy
Following your session at Hustle Wymondham, you will receive an individualised summary report within 48 hours. Every report is bespoke, based on your specific physiological responses and your primary performance goals.
Before and after the test, we will have a brief discussion to ensure your results are contextualised for your sport and based on your information that is relevant and important to you, with opportunity to discuss your report after you have digested the information.
